usb modem not working windows 8/8.1 (SOLVED)

I have windows 8 RTM( Enterprise Edition ) running on Dell inspiron Laptop with Micromax MMX 300G.
well all versions of Micromax MMX modem will work fine.

Just follow the steps below:

Method 1 (Older Method works fine with Windows 8):

1. uninstall the software if already installed.2. open the modem in new windows and set its ( modem_installation.exe and show_modem.exe ) compatibility to windows7 then         press OK.
3. Now install the software , then restart the system .
4. Connect the modem and start the software ( it shows no device ) then exit the application from the task manager .
5. Open the Device manager ( control panel > Administrative tools > Computer management )
6. Go for Other devices , simply uninstall all the drivers related to modem there (better uninstall both with or without yellow mark)
7. Go to Action menu and click on Scan for hardware changes .

8. Now simply open the MMX usb manager and it works fine.

Method 2 (Updated Article January 2014 for Win 8/8.1 both):

1. Install the MMX modem application in compatibility mode as above, then restart your system.
2. Next go to your installation folder as:
x64 bit OS –> C:\Program Files (x86)\MMX353G 3G USB Manager\Driver\Win7_64
x32 bit OS –> C:\Program Files\MMX353G 3G USB Manager\Driver\Win7_32
3. copy the file cmnsusbser.sys and paste it to C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder do replace if any older version is already present. Better save the older file before replacing it with new one.
4. Now, go back to installation folder and simply:

  • right click cmnsmdm.inf and click install,
  • then right click cmnsser.inf and click install.

5. So its done then,  only note that you must open the application from the desktop icon. Enjoy your MMX 3G modem in windows 8.1. Have fun guys.

        then go ti c/program file 86x/micromax mmg/resources/driver/windows 64/right click on first 2 starting with c (i don’t remember) n click on install …ur dongel will work

  4. when i connect reliance net connect in windows 8 many popup windows are opening continously but not connected properly

    • Well, try this hope this will solve your issue with reliance net connect :

      1) Plug in the device.
      2) Run the setup.exe
      3) It’ll give an error, unable to install modem[0]. Click finish.
      4) Get the drivers from some other machine, if you have one, else install it on someone’s laptop and copy the drivers from the following location to a USB drive:
      “{DriverName}:\Program Files\Reliance Netconnect+\driver\Win7\Win64”
      5) Go to windows explorer, “Win Key+ E”, on the left hand side, right click on Computer and click Manage.
      6) Go to Device manager. Under the other devices, you’ll find “Unknown device”. Right click on that and click “Update driver software”.
      7) “Browse my computer for driver software” and select the location where you copied the drivers from the other machine. (This might be a redundant step, but who cares till it gets the things working 😉 )
      8) Click “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer” and choose Have disk.
      9) Again browse to the location where you copied the driver and choose – “CT_ZTEMT_U_MDM_RELIANCE” and click ok. It’ll give you a lot of drivers option. I selected “ZTE USB Modem FFE7” and clicked ok.
      10) Validate internet access is there on your machine.

  6. I m using reliance 3g model is zteMF190 7.2 mbps in windows 8 pro but it working, i have 3g data almost 5gb but when i click on connect the chrome open as normally but webpage is not opening even google, and speed of reliance showing upload 9 kbps and downloading 25 kbps
    please help me

    • well, i have checked today on windows 8 pro and MMX352G installation setup has the option for compatibility, check out its there .

    • hi, there you might not have uninstalled the drivers which are in others section in Device Manager, go step by step you will get things done. After uninstall do Scan for hardware changes, if appears again you have to uninstall and reinstall then check again. When done then works fine.

  12. I’ve got a del inspiron 1525 and the os was recently upgraded to win 8 pro. I followed all ur steps to run my micromax mmx300g modem, but it’s still showing “initialization” in the usb manager interface and also the device is not shown in My Computer window. One more thing I wanted to inform you is that, initially, while installing the modem the device gets disconnected (i mean it disappears from the My Computer window)…any help is appreciable and kudos for this extremely useful discussion. tanx

Have LW272 BSNL 3G usb modem….worked fine with win 7…after upgrade to win 8 pro the modem keeps starting and searching but does not detect the sim to connect..uninstalled and re installed …changed compatibility to win 7….modem shows no error but keeps showing starting and searching….appreciate your help..thanks

  18. I have windows8 system……..bsnl teracom data card is not working in it…….when i connect device it blinks on starting and searching.

    • I have tested in most of the laptops but it worked, try to remove unknown drivers once you insert your modem and then restart your modem application.

  23. Steps to Install Micromax Modem.

    Step 1- Install The software normally as You install !
    Step 2- Choose yes when software asks for Reboot !
    Step 3- After the reboot Open the Software from Desktop..!
    Step 4- Now Open the DEVICE MANAGER.. There you will find
    3-4 Unknown Device!
    Step 5- Now move your mouse pointer to unknown Devices and . right click choose update driver Software..
    Step 6- Now Choose Browse my computer for Driver Software
    Step 7- Now Again Choose Browse
    Step 8- Now go to this location…C:\Program Files\MMX310G 3G USB Manager\Driver
    Step 9- Now repeat the same steps for all Unknown Devices..

    Step 10- Now After doing all the steps you will see network in your MMx310g Software.

      • I uninstall all driver showing in other device and when i click on scan for hrdware change then all driver show again with yellow mark in the list, is it ok?

      • well i also got the same problem in my frds laptop so, try to restart your system and remove all yellow mark drivers and insert the modem(not necessary for hardware changes scan ), just try few combinations. It will work.

    I have got vaio win 8 laptop with reliance netconnect+. Iam having this problem of encountering the message “The remote computer is not responding” after the device is detected since last 3 days. it was working fine before that.When reorted to customer care, they said it is not compatible with win 8 after a month. is it so? and what is the solution for this. please help!

    • Try to wait for next 5 – 10 minutes and try connecting again chances are that it may connect or else you could change the modes of connectivity like Hybrid, WCDMA under Settings >> Network on reliance netconnect, hope this may solve your problem, for the fact i haven’t used reliance but i googled it.

    • well himanshu, i’m also using mmx 353G in windows 8 pro, you are getting the message due to network problem or may be your SIM is not 3G enabled try to change your network mode to EDGE/GPRS and try again, besides this you can also add APN in connection profile (e.g. bsnl APN is bsnlnet). Check it out!

    1) Plugin the device
    2) GO to device manager
    3) update the driver which are not recognized or showing in yellow color.
    4) its done.

    • all done but a com 4 port driver is showing yellow and not updated. my usb modem device is recognised my pc and showing full tower of GSM (BSNL)sim connection. but dial-up process is not completed. it is shown dail failed always. plz help me. I cann`t access any live tiles and any online aplications.

      • well, Sourabh i think that dial failed error is not due to driver installation. It’s due to your cellular network, try out SIM other than BSNL in EDGE mode unless you have got 3G SIM. For BSNL you can set its APN to bsnlnet in connection profile and it as defailt.

    the device works perfectly on those OS but does not run on windows 8….

  76. Dear Nivesh, thanx for your previous help regarding usb modem connection in windows 8.
    Now I experience some problem on creation a system repair disk (A CD) on my windows 8 pro desktop.
    It shows the following error while I start the job with 2 moserbear CD one after another.
    Title: WINDOWS 8 RECOVERY DISK COULD NOT CREATE WITH ERROR CODE 0xC0AA0301
    After that I update motherboard bios firmware.
    Then I start the process with a sony DVD RW disk. The job complete without any error. Later I repeat the process with simple SONY blank CD. But the job end with a error mentioning that writing speed may not support by the system. After that I start the process with another moserbear blank CD as it`s writhing speed is upto 52x. but unfortunately it again gives same ERROR CODE 0xC0AA0301.

    Here is my HCL desktop configuration at a glance-
    CPU:- CORE I5 650 @ 3.20 GHz, 2 CORES, 4 LOGICAL PROCESS

    RAM:- 8GB

    MBD:- PEGATRON IPMIP-DV REV: 1.02; BIOS BY HCL, HCL MAKE MBD NAME DAYFLOWER-LSD.

    OPTICAL DRIVE:- TSST corp CDDVDW SH-S202I ATA device.

    HDD:- SEAGATE 1TB SATA
